Stay Safe: How to Identify and Avoid Scam Requests

At Take a Chef, we work hard to ensure chefs receive genuine service requests from real clients. However, despite our best efforts, some fraudulent users, bots, or scammers may occasionally create requests that bypass our controls.

For your safety, we recommend staying alert and watching for suspicious behavior.

Common Signs of Scam Requests

Scam requests often share some of the following characteristics:

  • The same client sends multiple requests within a short period of time, sometimes across different locations.
  • They create a strong sense of urgency and pressure you to respond quickly.
  • They include an email address or phone number in the notes section.
  • They ask you to contact them outside of the platform before the service is confirmed.
  • They offer unusually large opportunities, such as long-term services or events for big groups of people, to gain your trust.

Important Reminder About Client Contact Information

For your protection, client contact information is only shared through the platform once the service has been officially confirmed via the website.

If a client asks you to communicate outside the platform before confirmation, please treat the request with caution.

What You Should Do

If you receive a request that seems suspicious:

  • Do not contact the client outside the platform.
  • Avoid sharing personal or financial information.
  • Do not make purchases or payments on behalf of the client.
  • Reject the request by clicking on the trash can icon in the New Requests section.
  • Report the request to our support team so we can investigate it.
