Take a Chef Gift Cards: Buying, Packages, and How They Work

Surprise someone with a Take a Chef gift card. They redeem it within the year, plan their perfect meal, and customise every detail to their own taste — an unforgettable dining experience, in your honour.

How to buy one

1. Visit our Gift page.
2. Choose the package that fits the occasion.
3. Decide how many guests the experience will include, and click Select to confirm.
4. Add the recipient's name and a message for their gift card.
5. Enter your details to complete the purchase.
6. Choose a printed card to hand over in person, or a digital card sent straight to their email.
7. Go to checkout and complete your payment. Your gift card is sent according to the delivery option you chose.

What's the difference between the packages?

There are three — Casual, Gourmet and Exclusive. The difference is the budget available to the chef for creating the menu, which affects:

• The chef — their level of expertise and experience
• The ingredients — quality and exclusivity
• The menu — how creative and elaborate it can be

Whichever you choose, the experience is personalised and designed around the recipient.

If the packages don't fit what you have in mind

They don't have to. Contact our support team and we can arrange a gift card for a specific amount, or one that covers more guests, and issue you a code for it.

What the recipient chooses

Almost everything. Once they have the code they pick the date, the address, the cuisine and any dietary needs, then receive proposals from local chefs and choose the one they like. Nothing more to pay at that point.

The only two things fixed at purchase are the package and the number of guests.

Adding guests or increasing the budget later

You can, and how depends on timing:

Before the card has been redeemed — or redeemed, but no proposal received yet. Contact our support team. They'll send you a payment link for the difference and issue an updated gift code, which the recipient then redeems as normal.

After a chef has been chosen. Tell the chef what you'd like to change. They'll confirm the additional cost and send a money request through Take a Chef. Complete that payment and the booking updates automatically.

How long a gift card lasts

Gift cards are valid for one year from the date of purchase.

• Inside that year but seeing an expiry error? Contact support and they'll resolve it.
• Past a year? The card is normally no longer valid. But if the recipient never received a proposal, or their chef cancelled, contact us and we'll look at the case.
• Seeing "expired" on a code you know is current? If a gift request using that code is already in progress, the same code won't start a second one. Check My Shopping to see the status of the original request, view proposals and chat with chefs.
